Nine times out of ten, it is not the tool

MSPs look for new tooling because something is not running smoothly. But the solution usually lies in the process behind it.

Nine times out of ten, it is not the tool

What we see more and more: MSPs look for new tooling because something is not running smoothly. But nine times out of ten, it is not the tool. It is the process behind it.

You can use the most modern PSA or RMM, but if processes are not set up logically, you are just treating symptoms. New tooling then becomes an expensive sticking-plaster programme.

Where the solution more often lies

  • A simpler portfolio
  • Clearer boundaries on what is and is not included in a service
  • Fewer variants
  • Processes that follow on from each other logically

Only then does tooling have real impact. Maturing as an MSP is about minimising, standardising and automating. Not about stacking.

Ask the better question

So the question is not “which tool should we buy?”, but “why does this situation actually still work like this?”. To be fair: vendors would rather sell a new module than help you work better with what you already have. That is why an independent view helps.
